Marval SA has announced that Don Page, Chief Executive of Marval, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Northampton for his services to IT and education in 2010. Page received his Doctorate alongside Trevor Baylis OBE, inventor of the wind-up radio.
Says Edward Carbutt, Executive Director of Marval SA, "We would like to congratulate Don on this remarkable achievement, and look forward to hosting him during his upcoming visit to South Africa early next year. The award is testimony to his widespread influence in the field of IT Service Management (ITSM); his numerous contributions to the industry, as well as his commitment to education. It is tremendously exciting to represent a brand that is led by someone so dedicated to the field and the market that it serves."
Often referred to as the 'godfather of ITIL' (Information Technology Infrastructure Library), Page has worked closely with The University of Northampton to develop the world's first MSc in IT Service Management, which won the itSMF (IT Service Management Forum) award for innovation. He is world-renowned and respected for his work in the field of ITSM/ITIL and ISO/IEC 20000.
Addressing graduates, he expressed his desire to work further with the University on developing 'people' and communication skills with students: "Especially with technical students and IT, gone are the days of sitting in the back room and fiddling with equipment! Good technical skills on their own are no longer enough when it comes to employability; people, communication and problem solving skills coupled with business and service awareness are what employers need. The skill profile has changed."
Page will be visiting South Africa early this year to launch Marval SA's Training and Consulting division, the first Marval Executive Forum as well as to present on the latest ITSM/ISO/IEC 20000 developments; Marval's roadmap; and Marval SA Training and Consulting's approach to successful ITSM Process Optimisation.
