Speaking on the Role of Media in Supporting Events at SETE 2014 is Steve Bainbridge. Mr Bainbridge was General Counsel at Yas Marina Circuit (Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management LLC) managing the central legal function of the iconic Yas Marina Circuit, including responsibility for all contracts from F1 rights through sponsorship, broadcasting and venue maintenance contracts. His recent experience includes FIFA World Cup; he also acted as counsel for a large advertising company that secured Asian broadcast and sponsorship rights for each of the 2002 and 2006 World Cups. His experience and insight will bring interesting case studies to the wide audience expected at SETE 2014.
Graham Brown is a Professor of Tourism Management at the University of South Australia. Most of his work has been connected with sports; from small community carnivals to mega events. Professor Brown will be speaking about the “Experience of Cities that hosted Multi-sport Games”. This comes from specialist expertise concerning the relationship between the Olympic Games and tourism, gained from being a member of a “Mission to Atlanta” to identify lessons for planning the Sydney Olympic Games and provided advice to the Canadian Department of Heritage, about impact measures for the 2010 Olympic Games.
The line-up of international and national experts in Sports and Events Tourism at this year’s conference will certainly benefit delegates to understand the global and national trends associated with making SA a globally competitive destination for hosting major events. As in previous years, this year’s SETE conference promises to stimulate debate and share knowledge about contemporary issues affecting the sports and events tourism industry. One of the sessions on day 2 involves the participation of international buyers who will share information about the key factors that influence their decision to host events in destinations like SA.
